Our Award-Winning Early Learning Books…

…Featuring Your Mascot

Delightfully Funny, Based on Science

Kids and animals have a special bond, an evolutionary connection that can be traced back 15,000 years. So it’s no surprise kids really want to hear the story of a lovable animal they have a connection to.

Each of our mascot books begins with a one-page kid-friendly history telling the story of the mascot and inviting kids to explore the book together.

To kids, the illustrations are delightful and funny, but underneath the humor is serious literacy science: All of the details were carefully considered and field-tested, from the font to the color schemes, from the subject words to the repeating characters.

Kids learn best when they are intrinsically motivated to explore high-quality content, and that’s what you get when you pair a known character with engaging illustrations. There’s no better way to learn to read and count.

A portion of all proceeds goes to dog-rescue organizations, including the ASPCA.

Scenes from the Counting Book

Here’s How We Make Them

Our team spends months creating the scenes for each book, and each one goes through many changes, but in time lapse it’s pretty quick.

FAQs

What’s happening in that picture?

Nothing good. That’s our founder’s dog.

How does this work?

We work first with an organization’s licensing department - we can’t make books without official approval from a college or university. Then we ship to bookstores, alumni offices and others as requested.

How do I know these are good?

We spent a year partnering with experts and testing our books until we got them right. Teachers and other educators love them and use these books as instructional materials. These are the best and funniest serious educational books available.

Why is the dog facing forward in most scenes?

After lots of testing, we found that children had a harder time understanding the intent of the images and the pattern of an alphabet or counting book if we showed the dog in different positions. New positions became distracting. With the repeated front- and side-facing dog, the intent of each illustration becomes clear to kids much faster.

What else do you make?

We are working on a read-aloud storybook we will fully customize for each college or university. It’s a fictionalized story of how the mascot became the mascot, and the book explores all the great things a school can offer to students (or aspiring students!).
